This music was recorded January 24, 25 and 26, 2008, but then mixed to nice fat juicy one-inch analog tape over the next four days at Ocean Studios, Burbank, CA, where Saint was assisted by ALBERT MATA. Straightaway, the righteously mad master of mastering, JOE GASTWIRT, took things into his own hands on Rhapsody Drive. Much music was copied by GAVIN TEMPLETON, who also played alto sax on B.14. PAUL RUSCHA took the pictures of Ed’s pictures, and GREGG HEINE oiled the Ruscha Studio engine to keep things from seizing up. All the session photos (except those of Jon, Bill, Glenn, Wayne, Danny and the various axes) were made by PEAK. Ye Olde SPOTTSWOOD ERVING did the album design and GERETH JIFFEAU layed the sucker out. WALTER THURMAN printed the half-recycled, half-sustainably-forested dead-tree pages you currently cradle. ANDREAS VON IMHOFF angelically rescued the ignored infant in Germany. JEFF GAUTHIER is Da Big Cheese. CHELSEA HADLEY got the thang started.
The complete and full realization of DIRTY BABY, stuffed with gloriously generous reproductions of Ed’s 66 pics and enough ghazals (both printed and recorded) to gas a Phillips station, if not a Standard, and including tragically hilarious guest appearances by Nels as Saddam Hussein and Jean-Bertrand Aristide, is available at surviving bookstores, museum shoppes, and the usual online purveyors, from DelMonico Books / Prestel (prestel.com) and sports this ISBN: 978-3-7913-5083-7.
